Virgin Trial 50Mbps Over Copper

Digital TV & Broadband Provider Virgin Media has announced that it is testing the viability of delivering its services via copper lines at speeds of up to 50Mbps.

The trial, in partnership with Vtesse Networks, is running in Cornwall in England and involves delivery of both digital TV and broadband services.

To ensure optimal delivery of the service customers must live within 3.5km of their exchange – though it is possible that this reach may be expanded in future.

If the trial proves successful we could well see the technology being deployed across Virgin Medias entire customer base.
